Alec Baldwin says he was ready to give up his Hollywood life after fatal Rust shooting

Alec Baldwin has admitted he wanted to step away from the spotlight after he accidentally shot dead Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

The 42-year-old cinematographer died in 2021 after a gun Alec was holding accidentally discharged.

Alec had been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the death, but the charges have since been dropped.

Following the tragic incident, Alec made a heartbreaking admission to his wife Hilaria Baldwin as he reflected on his Hollywood career.

"I don't want to do this for a living any more. I don't. I don't want to be a public person," he told her.

In an interview with The Times, the 65-year-old actor admitted he is still struggling to come to terms with the fatal shooting.

Despite his long career and life-time of accomplishments, Alec believes it is Halyna's death he will be remembered for.

The Still Alice star said his wife has helped him survive the past 18 months as he faced criminal charges and credited her for "taking control of his life".

Alec resumed filming for Rust last month and hopes the movie will be wrapped up by the end of May.

Despite the film still going ahead, one tragic scene "will not be reshot", according to reports.

At the time of Halyna's death, the cast had been working on a mock gunfight which was filmed inside a church in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A source has said the scene has now been removed from the movie and will not be re-filmed.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, they also confirmed there are no plans to film any other scenes using the original church as a backdrop.

Despite criminal charges being dropped against Alec, he is now being sued by Halyna's family.

The actor has always maintained that he wasn't aware that the gun contained a live round, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Legal representatives for the family said that Baldwin could not "escape from the fact that he had a major role in a tragedy".

In a statement seen by PA, US lawyer Gloria Allred said she was "committed to proceeding" with the civil lawsuit.

She said: "[Alec] should know that we remain committed to fighting and winning for our clients and holding him accountable for pointing a loaded gun at Halyna Hutchins, pulling the trigger, and killing her."

The statement continued: "Mr Baldwin may pretend that he is not responsible for pulling the trigger and ejecting a live bullet which ended Halyna’s life.

"He can run to Montana and pretend that he is just an actor in a wild west movie but, in real life, he cannot escape from the fact that he had a major role in a tragedy which had real-life consequences for Halyna, her mother, father, sister, and co-worker."
