With prices rising for everything from food and clothing to petrol and energy bills most of us are looking for a bargain.
Many already head to budget supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl hoping to pay as little as possible for their weekly shop.
Now Aldi, which was named cheapest supermarket of the year in 2021 by consumer group Which?, is looking to help cut the costs even more.
Here are the stores top five ways to make your money go even further on your weekly shop.
1) Price cuts before stores close
It says all of Aldi’s UK stores mark down perishable products such as bread, meat and fruit and vegetables by 75% on their last day of life before stores close.
The initiative gives savvy customers a bargain while cutting waste, with all the products suitable for home freezing if you don’t want to eat them on the same day as purchase.
The times that items are reduced vary by store and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis – so be sure to keep an eye out for red stickers next time you’re cruising the aisles at Aldi.
If you miss out on the 75% deals, don’t worry as there are plenty of other price incentives in Aldi stores to take advantage of!
The supermarket also has a scheme where it marks down certain goods by 30% if the packaging is imperfect, including items such as rice, pasta, cereal and tinned food.
The reduction stickers again offer customers even lower prices while cutting waste - though be sure to keep your eyes peeled as they tend to go quick.
Pick up some Super 6 deals
Aldi works with suppliers all year-round to offer quality products at unbeatable prices.
Then, every fortnight, it picks six of its favourite fruit and vegetables to offer to shoppers at even lower prices.
The same goes for its range of fresh meat, with six items being reduced every two weeks – both in store and online.
Choose Wonky
You can also take advantage of Aldi’s ‘wonky’ fruit and veg in its Everyday Essentials products.
Ranging from curvy carrots for your Sunday roast, to raspberries and strawberries for your fruity desserts, these bargains can save you even more money on your shop.
Making the most of leftovers
In a bid to encourage shoppers to make the most of what’s in their cupboard, did you know Aldi has a whole section on its website dedicated to leftover recipes?
From bubble and squeak to leftover Yorkshire pudding wraps, you can browse the collection here.
