Aldi saves shoppers with 99p product after McDonald’s scraps fan fave from menu

Following the shock announcement from McDonald’s that their breakfast waffles have been axed from the menu after just two months, fast food fans looking for a hash brown waffle fix need to look no further than Aldi. The budget retailer has revealed a new freezer item that should hit the spot - and save money at the drive thru.

When customers realised that the popular side had been ditched from the menu in a recent shake up, many took to Twitter to share their devastation. Some even going so far as to say it ‘ruined their life’.

On Twitter, @KarisNembhard tweeted: "McDonald’s taking the potato waffles off the breakfast menu has ruined my life,” while Kyle Martyn Stanley wrote on Facebook: "Eeeeeee!!! As if Maccies have stopped doing the breakfast waffles!! McDonald's give your head a wobble and bring them back!!"

However, those looking for a cheap alternative to fill the void might want to try Aldi’s Four Seasons Mini Hash Brown Waffles, which cost 99p for 454g. By comparison, McDonald’s potato waffles came in at £1.39 for a portion of three, so you’re getting much more bang for your buck at Aldi.

The mini hash brown waffles cook from frozen in 16 minutes, and are the ideal snack if you’ve recently acquired an air fryer, too.

Shoppers can also save money and have their own ‘fake-away’ from the comfort of home with Aldi’s 12 Chicken Nuggets & Dips, which cost just £1.89 and come with either BBQ or Sweet Chilli dips, or Aldi’s version of Chicken Selects with the 4 Boneless Chicken Strips, a snip of the price of the Golden Arches, as £2.49.

Or those who prefer a burger fix can enjoy Aldi’s Snacksters Big Stack at £1.79, costing a whopping £1.40 less than McDonald’s, and not forgetting the classic 10 Breakfast Hash Browns that are under £2, for those who can’t beat an original.
