Aldi's smart response as shopper comments on new chocolate truffle dupes

Aldi was quick to respond after a fan commented on the store's luxury chocolate dupes which look remarkably similar to a popular brand. The Moser Roth Luxurious Truffles are similar in appearance to the Lindt Lindor chocolate truffles.

Jess Davies took to Twitter to comment on the find after trying out the Moser Roth milk chocolate variety. She posted "@AldiUK no idea how you get away with this but please keep doing it."

She added: "1/3 of the price of a similar red one AND they're gluten free!!". When asked if they melt in the mouth Jess replied: "They really do. Trying the white ones next week see how they match up."

Aldi was on the ball with its response. Retweeting the post it commented: "Keep getting away with what? Making amazing and unique products?"

Its post garnered thousands of likes from fans. And one suggested the person responsible for the comment should be paid well. The Cavalier Trader posted: "hahahaha . who runs this account? I hope you get paid hansomly for it." and Charlie added: "Top tier tweeting Aldi"

There were plenty of comments on the chocolates as well with many delighted to hear it was gluten-free. Others had already tried them out.

Joanna said: "I bought some yesterday and we've eaten them already. Delicious. Just like some others I bought recently but a lot cheaper."

Marie asked: "Why haven't I seen these? I need to start putting my glasses on for shopping now." And Paula added: "Xmas prezzie hello."

Lindt has been a popular brand for almost two centuries after it was founded in Swizerland in 1845. Its Lindor chocolate was created in 1949 to liven people's spirits after the Second World War.

However it took another 20 years before the truffles which are popular today were invented. It is also famous for its golden bunnies which are on sale at Easter.

Aldi regularly offers its own versions of big brands across a range of products from skin care to its Colin the caterpillar cake which ended in a legal battle.

It's prices tend to be lower than its branded rivals. The Lindt Lindor truffles retail at around £4.50-5.50 in most supermarkets while the Moser Roth ones cost £2.69.
