A budget gin from Aldi has officially been ranked among the best in the world.
The 'Haysmith's Rhubarb & Ginger Gin', priced at £14.99, secured the title at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Aldi's spirit beat competition from premium brands, including Edinburgh Gin, as well as supermarkets like M&S and Waitrose. The tasty rhubarb and ginger gin achieved the highest score in the competition.
At under £15, Aldi’s bottle beat Edinburgh Gin’s Rhubarb & Ginger flavour, which costs around double the price of the supermarket version. It's available to click and collect online - or you can purchase a bottle at Aldi stores nationwide.
The budget retailer picked up a total of 17 awards at the competition, including a gold medal for its Glen Marnoch Limited Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (£17.49, 75cl).
Aldi’s Rhubarb & Ginger Gin received plenty of praise from judges, with one describing it as: “Magnificently well balanced with full, rich flavours of mouth-watering rhubarb, fiery ginger and chaste juniper.”
The fruity spirit is just the ticket for the warmer months - simply add tonic and a slice of orange.
This isn't the first time Aldi has won awards for its tipples. In 2021, the supermarket chain bagged “wine supermarket of the year” at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Last year, the supermarket’s budget-friendly Saint Gérmont premium French vodka triumphed at the World Vodka Awards, proving that luxury needn't be pricey.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK said: “We are extremely proud to have received the highest possible accolade for our own brand spirits.
“Now more than ever, we want to show that low prices don’t mean compromising on quality or taste..”
