With Easter round the corner, foodies can't wait to get their hands on hot cross buns once again. But it is bad news for Greggs fans as the chain has ditched the favourite from its seasonal menu for the second year running.
So if you're hoping to follow up your sausage roll with a bun, you'll need to search elsewhere for the delicious treat.
Luckily, Aldi has come to the rescue. Keen to ensure shoppers get their fill, the supermarket says it is offering 1,000 disappointed Greggs customers free hot cross buns.
To make the most of the deal, available from today, fans simply need to screenshot their Greggs app.
Then send the photo to freealdibuns@clarioncomms.co.uk along with your name and address to receive a £5 voucher.
As Aldi prices start from just 65p per pack, fans can enjoy a whopping 30 buns from the supermarket. The store sells a variety of different flavours - including salted caramel buns.
The chain's range include the award-winning Specially Selected Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Buns (£1.25, 4 pack), new Specially Selected Salted Caramel Blondie Chocolate Hot Cross Buns (£1.25, 4 pack), in stores now, and the Or the new Caramelised Biscuit and Jaffa Hot Cross Buns (£1.29, pack of 6), which land in stores March 16.
Aldi is also selling themed Marshmallows ahead of the occasion, though fans are raving about those Easter treats for a different reason.
Shoppers were left in stitches after noticing rude-looking shapes in the sweets that they 'can't unsee'. Instead of the bunnies and chicks advertised, customers thought the sweets resembled something a little less savoury.
Meanwhile, over at Greggs, a number of new Easter favourites are expected to land on shelves soon. Confirming the news fans would need to go elsewhere for their hot cross buns, a Greggs spokeswoman said: "While Hot Cross Buns won't be returning to our menu this Easter, keep an eye out for other Easter favourites that will be arriving in our shops soon."
