The weather has begun to turn and with the cost of energy at the forefront of most people's minds, ways to cut costs are circulating. Aldi shoppers are turning to alternative ways to dry clothes as outdoor drying hours get shorter.
A heated clothes airer at under £40 is back in the online store and it's a "fan favourite" according to our sister publication Leicestershire Live, which says that the product is currently priced at £39.99 and dries clothes at a fraction of the cost of a tumble drying. It puts the costs of using the airer at less than 8p an hour compared to 30p+ for most tumble dryers.
The product has a capacity to take a weight of items up to 3kg and opens up to 147 cm x 54cm x 94cm. The 230W airer boasts 20 heated bars and includes a cable of around 1.4m in length. Another bonus is that it folds away easily once you're done using it.

Aldi's airer is the cheapest currently found online. It has more than 500 five-star reviews from previous purchasers according to the Aldi website. One happy customer wrote: "I've had this plug in airer for about 3 months, this airer has been amazing! Lots of drying space. It heats up quickly and has my clothes dried quickly, also leaving no creases. Great for rainy days or if you do not have a washing line."
Another shopper said: "Cheaper to run than a tumble drier. Very effective, clothes dry quickly and it cuts down on the amount of ironing needed. Folds flat so easy to store." A third added: "I've wanted one of these for a while so was pleased to find one at such a good price. Invaluable in cold and rainy weather".
Of course, not everyone was blown away by the item. One reviewer gave a two star review and wrote: "Very slow. Takes 8 -9 hours to partially dry. Blue cover provided really helps the temp control. Overall ok". Another disappointed shopper added: "I tried this out once and took it back. It only dried the small bit of fabric which touched the bars. I had it on for hours. The idea is good but it just doesn't live up to the description."
However, one helpful shopper added: "There are negative reviews about clothes taking a long time to dry and responses about using a couple of bars per item. If I want the clothes dried quicker, I make sure as much of them are in contact with the bars as possible. So comparatively cheap to run at 230v and helps warm the room up."
