Aldi announces major change to Specialbuys as it axes online delivery

Aldi has announced it is making a major change to its Specialbuys website this year that will affect everyone who orders them online.

The move will see the budget supermarket phase out its online deliveries this year, with wine and spirit deliveries being axed later this month. Specialbuys deliveries will follow in autumn.

As reported by The Mirror, the discounted grocer will still continue to offer a click and collect service that will allow shoppers to order online and pick up their groceries in-store.

Aldi's famous Specialbuys range have become hugely popular with shoppers who regularly queue outside stores to get their hands on the latest in demand item.

The massive queues have led to its online website becoming hugely popular with shoppers, with many selling out before other shoppers can get their hands on them.

It is currently unclear whether the decision to axe its online deliveries will result in any job losses.

A spokesperson for Aldi has said: "Aldi is more popular than ever, and we are prioritising making our wine and Specialbuy products available in our stores.

“We keep our prices low by being the most efficient retailer in Britain and we have therefore taken the decision to stop selling wine and spirits online for home delivery from later this month.

“We will also stop selling our Specialbuys online for home delivery later this year. Our grocery click and collect service will continue, and we would like to thank every customer that has bought Aldi products online.

“Aldi will continue to consider new digital services in the future.”

The move has been the subject of debate by some shoppers on the Aldi UK Shoppers Facebook page already, with many of them being divided on whether it is a good thing.

"That's good thing it should only be in store like it used to be", said one shopper.

"That might be a good thing", commented a second.

However, other shoppers seemed to disagree, as one wrote: "Aldi taking a huge step back and misreading the room."
