Albion Rovers captain Sean Fagan says the club will haul themselves off the foot of the League Two table after a dismal display against Bonnyrigg Rose cost manager Brian Reid his job.
The Cliftonhill club last night sacked Reid in the aftermath of a 1-0 defeat that saw Rose leapfrog Rovers into ninth spot, and move a point clear of their rivals.
As things stand, it leaves Rovers in the perlious position of facing a play-off for their SPFL survival at the end of the season with the winners of the Highland/Lowland League play-off.
Last season's player of the year Fagan admits he's at a loss to explain how the club have gone from thumping Dumbarton 5-1 last weekend to suffering back-to-back 1-0 defeats at home to fellow strugglers Stranraer and Bonnyrigg in the past few days.
But he insists games like the Dumbarton display show Rovers have what it takes to turn things around in the final six games.
Speaking before news of Reid's exit, Fagan said: "That was a cup final today and we've not turned up.
"It is a massive disappointment.
"If you don't take your chances and you don't defend right, you get beat in these games.
"I don't know what's happened [in the space of a week].
"Last Saturday is an example of what we can actually do. We know we are a good team and we always seem to show it against teams that are higher up in the league, but when it comes to the teams around us, it just doesn't happen for us.
"We just need to keep working hard and keep together as a team.
"We will get out of this."
A trip to sixth-place Forfar - who Rovers have lost all three previous encounters with this season - awaits next Saturday.
A positive for Rovers is that they have pulled off some big wins on the road this season and Fagan hopes they can bag another away victory to potentially get back ahead of Rose, who host Stranraer.
"Our goal difference and our away form are very good, so I've got confidence in us," said Fagan.
"Forfar are a good team but anybody can beat anybody in this league.
"We are going there looking for a positive result. We need three points and it doesn't matter how we get them.
"The boys will stick together. We'll go into training this week, put it behind us and we can't allow that kind of performance to happen again.
"We are disappointed and we spoke about it after the game.
"Every game is a cup final for us and we need to turn up."
