Charlie Reilly took his Albion Rovers goal tally to 11 in 20 games on Saturday and boss Brian Reid admits the midfielder’s scintillating form has him fearing a bigger club will snap him up in January.
The 20-year-old was at the double as Rovers defeated 10-man East Fife 3-2 at Bayview, with Reilly netting a stoppage time winner.
Reilly also boasts some impressive statistics in League Two.
Of Rovers 16 goals in the division so far, he has scored nine of them and assisted five.
The ex-Hamilton Accies man struggled with injury last season but appears to be back to his best and Reid reckons other clubs will have noticed ahead of the January transfer window.
He said: “Charlie is a top player and we are delighted we’ve got him. He is a big player for us and been excellent so long may it continue.
“If you look at his assists, Charlie has nearly assisted all of our other goals as well so he is doing really well. I’m really pleased for Charlie and people forget he’s still only 20.
“We are delighted to have him and I know there will be clubs looking at him with that kind of form, but he is our player for the moment and hopefully he can continue to score goals for us.
“We’d never want to stand in anyone’s way. Everyone wants to play at the highest level they can.”
Giving his impressive stats, Reilly could be the difference for Rovers this term as they bid to steer clear of the potential Lowland League trap door at the bottom of the division and climb the table.
Reid added: “It would be a big loss for us if that happened, but until such times he will still be our player.
It’s only November and hopefully he’ll continue to do well for us.
“But Albion Rovers is a platform for people to come in and do well. It is good Charlie is doing well and if he earns a move off the back of that, we certainly won’t stop him.”
