Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid was left ruing his side’s luck once again this season after a slip by goalkeeper Jack Leighfield led to the goal that gifted Forfar all three points.
The Cliftonhill side went into the clash at home to the Loons off the back off consecutive 4-0 wins at Bonnyrigg and Stranraer, looking to leapfrog their opponents in the table.
But any hopes of making it three straight wins went out the window when Leighfield slipped taking a goal kick, and Finn Robson pounced to bag the easiest of goals for the visitors.
It was all that separated the two sides in a contest devoid of any quality and it leaves Rovers second from bottom in League Two, just three points ahead of bottom side Bonnyrigg but a mere six points adrift of the promotion play-off spots.
Reid said: “That moment was the difference. It was heading for a scrappy 0-0. Both teams stopped each other playing and there weren’t many shots on goal.
“It is just an unfortunate slip that has cost us taking something from the game. Both goalkeepers didn’t really have a save to make.
“There was nothing in the game other than that so it is very disappointing.
“We wanted to keep our run going but we know Forfar are a decent, experienced team. It was always going to be a tough game for us but we at least deserved a point.
“The conditions made it difficult but that’s not an excuse. We didn’t get on the ball enough and in the way we know we can.
“We just need to win a couple of games and we are back in good shape. If we’d won on Saturday we would have been in mid-table and ahead of Forfar, but a lucky break has been the difference and we are where we are.
“We just need to dust ourselves down and prepare for a long trip up to Elgin this weekend.”
Rovers will head to Borough Briggs on Saturday looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat there when the sides last met in October. With three wins from their last five outings on the road, Reid is hopeful of maintaining their strong away form to get back on track in their survival bid.
He added: “Our away form has been very good this season so we are hoping that continues.
“We are not underestimating Elgin but we know we can compete with anyone in this division.
“Elgin was a game where we dominated for most parts and just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Then we lose a set-piece goal and lose 1-0 when we should have come down the road with a point or something more.
“But it is a game we are more than capable of winning and we are in better shape now than we were last time, with players back from injury.”
