Alan Shearer could not hide his delight as Newcastle United secured an 'impressive' victory at Tottenham to move into the top four. Goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron earned the visitors a deserved 2-1 victory in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Eddie Howe made just one change to the starting eleven from the midweek win over Everton. Joe Willock came into the side in place of Jacob Murphy, with Joelinton shrugging off an injury concern to take a wide role.
Wilson capitalised on a Hugo Lloris error to give the visitors a first-half lead, lifting the ball into an unguarded net. Referee Jarred Gillett allowed the goal to stand despite a collision between the striker and goalkeeper, and the on-field decision was upheld despite a VAR review.

Miguel Almiron quickly doubled this advantage and continued his hot streak in front of goal, powering past Clement Lenglet and beating Lloris from a tight angle. Harry Kane pulled one back for the hosts shortly after the restart, evading Kieran Trippier at the far post to nod home a corner, but Tottenham rarely threatened in their pursuit of an equaliser.
It is a result which means Newcastle have continued their impressive start to the season, and now occupy a top-four spot after leapfrogging Chelsea and Manchester United. Magpies legend Shearer was full of praise for his former side, and pointed out the team's fitness to maintain their press until the full-time whistle.
He posted on social media: "Very very impressive performance from the Toon. Deserved the points and again looked fit all over the pitch."
One Newcastle fan replied: "I absolutely agree they fully deserve the win and fantastic performance." Another supporter commented: "Don’t feel Eddie gets enough credit, what a job that fella has done/ is doing ?
"He’s put so much pride back in this team. It’s always been obvious at what was achievable with an aligned way of working"
