Alan Shearer praises Manchester United player who was 'different class' vs Nottingham Forest

Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer waxed lyrical about Manchester United midfield enforcer Casemiro following Tuesday night's comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

United moved to within a point of the top four thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and substitute Fred.

Rashford set the ball rolling, sweeping home an emphatic effort after connecting with a well-worked Christian Eriksen corner, before teeing up Martial to double the Reds' advantage just three minutes later. Fred put the seal on the victory late on, latching onto Casemiro's excellent pass and finishing with aplomb.

While it was Rashford who dominated many of the headlines for scoring his tenth goal and registering his fourth assist of the campaign, Casemiro's performance in midfield was outstanding. Following Raphael Varane's return to the side, the Brazilian moved back into the engine room after starting at centre-back against Burnley in the Carabao Cup last week and produced a masterful display, featuring an array of excellent passes and fine tackling.

It was a performance that highlighted why United were wise to invest up to £70million in his signature during the summer. He was excellent and continues to bring unrivalled qualities to Erik ten Hag's side.

"He is different class and makes everything look effortless," Shearer told Amazon Prime Video. "As I said, his tackle in the first half [in the build-up to Martial's goal], his ability to read the game and see pictures before everyone else does... he's a class act."
