Alan Shearer suggests Chelsea need to find a new striker before the September 1 deadline amid Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer links as old problems show their face again at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
The Blues kicked off the new 2022/23 campaign on the right foot after a late Jorginho penalty in first half injury time was enough to see Thomas Tuchel's side over the line and end the five year wait in the process of winning away at the Toffees. It was a performance that showcased the good and bad of Chelsea. The good being the solid defensive foundations that have been ever-present during Tuchel's managerial reign. Kalidou Koulibaly's introduction into that fold coupled with a potential Wesley Fofana introduction means that the west Londoners are set in that regard.
Marc Cucurella made his debut late on in this Saturday Night Football fixture after his £63million move from Brighton was just confirmed in time for game week 1. Despite Raheem Sterling looking the brightest player in attack, the same problems showed itself again in relation to a lack of creativity up top. Both Kai Havertz and Mason Mount really struggled to impact proceedings and this was shown especially with the German's player rating from the affair.

football.london's player rating read: "The German struggled to truly get into the match in the opening half and while he rotated his position well with Sterling, could not exert the same influence. 5."
Unsurprisingly with this in mind, when Newcastle legend Shearer was asked about what he made about the transfer spending so far this summer in SW6, he had no hesitation to make a bold suggestion that will vindicate new owner Todd Boehly's decision about potentially going over the £300million mark.
"I think they have made some very good signings but as I was speaking for centre-forwards for Everton, there's no doubt Chelsea need that forward as well," Shearer analysed on BBC Match of the Day. "I know they have got [Armando] Broja but it may take time for him.
"In the meantime, they have lost [Romelu] Lukaku, so they need a centre-forward as well."
"They do need that focal point," his punditry compatriot Ian Wright concluded.
