Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has hailed Callum Wilson's second-half impact after the Magpies' number nine scored a brace against Southampton. The Magpies came from a goal behind to win 3-1 at St. James' Park to move a step closer to Champions League football.
Anthony Gordon was given his first start at St. James' Park but squandered two golden opportunities to give the Toon the lead. Stuart Armstrong notched for the Saints to give Ruben Selles' side the lead at the break.
Wilson replaced Gordon at the interval and took just nine minutes to equalise and get Newcastle up and running. VAR denied Wilson a second having strayed offside in the build-up, before a Theo Walcott own goal handed the Toon the lead.

There was no VAR to deny Wilson his second just minutes after Newcastle took the lead. The Magpies top goal scorer took advantage of some poor Southampton defending to wrap up all three points.
Shearer tweeted: "Not one shot on target for the Toon in the first half. Down the hill in the second half and on comes @CallumWilson and changes it all. A brilliant performance from him."
