Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer believes Harry Kane's World Cup penalty miss against France will haunt the England captain for the rest of his career.
The England skipper fired his second penalty of the game over the bar late on in the second half as England lost 2-1 to France in the World Cup quarterfinals.
While he did manage to dispatch his first spot kick, which was excellently won by Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, the second proved to be the difference, with England unable to send the game to extra-time as a result.

One forward who knows just how much a penalty miss can effect a striker is Shearer, who missed a penalty for Newcastle against arch rivals Sunderland back in 2000.
With five minutes left in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park, Newcastle found themselves 2-1 down to Sunderland, trailing to goals from Don Hutchinson and Niall Quinn after they had taken the lead on four minutes through Gary Speed.
When Rob Lee was brought down inside the box late on by Quinn, it seemed a certainty that Shearer would dispatch the penalty to rescue a point for the Magpies.
However, the Newcastle number nine fired his spot kick straight at Thomas Sorensen, handing Sunderland a famous win at St James'. It was a miss Shearer still thinks about to this day.
And the former Newcastle skipper believes Kane will be left questioning what he could have done to find the back of the net against France, just like he did following his Sunderland penalty agony.
"It will hurt Harry for the rest of his life," Shearer wrote in his Athletic column.
"A day won’t go by without him thinking about it or being reminded about it. He’ll always be mulling over what he could or should have done.
"When I was playing for Newcastle United, I missed a big penalty against Sunderland in similar style, hitting it at Thomas Sorensen, and it still haunts me! That word might sound dramatic, but I still wake up thinking about that miss. That’s forwards for you. That’s what we carry."
