Alan Carr has said his husband's alcohol addiction was "too much" as he opens up about their divorce.
The TV star said his ex-husband Paul Drayton's addiction "just got too much" to deal with before they separated.
Alan and Paul announced they would be going their separate ways in January 2022, after 13 years together and three years of marriage.
Alan said he previously questions whether he was an alcoholic himself after wild nights out.
He talked about a time when he was in Palm Springs when he drunkenly attacked his ex and ransacked their hotel room but awoke with no memory.
The 46-year-old also said that he gave a police statement at 4am outside a McDonald's in Liverpool after his tour manager Elliot had his leg shattered by a gang.
Alan opened up about waking up after 3am locked in a London TV studios after coming face to face with Harrison Ford.
Talking about his divorce, Alan told The Guardian : "You come out and you think, 'Oh, I'm happy now, taking a bit more control of my life'."
Alan said that he now knows he was not an alcoholic, as he added: "I know now that I'm not [an alcoholic] and seeing [alcoholism] first-hand, I realise I was nowhere near becoming one."
Paul has since posted on his own Instagram page that he is currently in rehab for alcoholism, after a "challenging couple of years'" which saw him plead guilty in November 2021 to a drink-driving charge.
When the pair announced their split they released a statement that said: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.
"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
Alan is currently single but said he is "tentatively looking" for someone.
However, he says he does not want to be in a relationship with a fellow celeb but someone who understands the industry, explaining: "I need somebody who's like celebrity adjacent, who knows the business and understands the long hours and that I might be away."
