Nick Saban made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, though viewers couldn’t help but notice the Alabama football head coach had a bloodshot eye.
McAfee jokingly questioned whether Saban had burst a blood vessel while squatting, though the head coach maintained that he was unsure what had happened to his right eye and that it didn’t hurt.
During his weekly radio show later on Thursday evening, Saban revealed that he paid a visit to the team doctor after practice. The Crimson Tide doctor was able to get to the root of the issue, explaining to the head coach that his bloodshot right eye was the result of him yelling too much.
“He said, ‘You know you can get this from yelling,’” Saban said of his conversation with his doctor. “He said, 'You've got it from yelling. There's nothing wrong with you. You just got it from yelling. You busted a blood vessel from yelling too much.’”
The 72-year-old may need to tone it down a notch while disciplining his team, as evidenced by the self-inflicted bloodshot eye he had on Thursday.
Saban and the Crimson Tide have an important rivalry matchup against No. 13 LSU looming Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
