Alabama QB Bryce Young says leadership is best part of his game

Bryce Young has tangible aspects to his game that quarterback-needy teams such as the Houston Texans could desperately use.

The 5-10, 204-pound Alabama signal caller can make plays with his feet as well as with his arm. The Texans could use that dynamic play at quarterback as they begin the DeMeco Ryans era.

According to Young, the best part of his game can’t exactly be measured with metrics or data. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner told the media at the NFL combine March 3 the best part of his game.

“For me, I really pride myself in my leadership,” said Young. “I know that’s something I have to earn at the next level. I’m really excited to get into a locker room whatever team does take me and try to earn that trust and respect from the locker room. I get that it’s not something I’m entitled to, but at the next level I’m excited to put in the work to try to earn that trust.”

If the Texans, who hold the No. 2 overall pick in Round 1, were to take Young, the 21-year-old would be going to a team with a crop of young players on offense such as running back Dameon Pierce, receiver Nico Collins, and guard Kenyon Green. Young would also have to win the respect of proven veterans on the offense such as wideout Brandin Cooks and three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Young spoke highly of his formal meeting with the Texans at the combine in Indianapolis.

Said Young: “My meeting with the Texans was great. I was super happy to be in that room. It’s an amazing staff. To be able to talk ball with them and then for them to ask me some questions and for me to learn a little more about them and them to learn more about me, it was a great environment to be in that room.”

Young did not participate in on-field drills at the combine as he is saving it for Alabama’s pro day.
