In just a few hours, the Las Vegas Raiders will be on the clock at pick No. 7. We know the names that are in consideration and what positions they might target. But what is the best-case scenario for the Raiders in Round 1?
In a recent article by Jim Wyman of Pro Football Focus, he wrote about every team’s best and worst-case scenario heading into the NFL Draft. For the Raiders, that is having either Alabama EDGE Will Anderson or Georgia DT Jalen Carter fall to No. 7. Here are his thoughts on the draft plans for the Raiders:
Aside from Maxx Crosby, the only playmaker on the Raiders’ defense is 33-year-old Chandler Jones, and he’s coming off one of the worst-graded seasons of his career.
There are two real blue-chip prospects on the defensive side of the ball in this year’s class: Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. and Georgia’s Jalen Carter. Depending on how the first six picks shape up, it’s very possible one or both of these guys fall to Las Vegas.
Anderson and Carter are the top two defenders in this year’s class and either one would be an instant upgrade for Las Vegas. But the likelihood of Anderson falling to No. 7 seems exceptionally low. However, there is a chance that Carter could be available to the Raiders when they are on the clock.
