Al Porter says he 'can't wait' for much anticipated return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Al Porter is set to bring his new stand up comedy show to this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The Tallaght native made his critically acclaimed debut at the comedy festival six years ago. In 2017, Al quit his Today FM show and all other professional engagements in 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied and he was never charged with any offence.

Now, the Dublin funny man is back and better than ever with a string of upcoming gigs. In recent weeks, Al has been performing at smaller gigs like at his Work in Progress tour Killarney at the weekend, ahead of his much anticipated return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday, Al said that he is "so grateful for the chance to perform again", and that he's very excited about the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He wrote: "As I say on stage, you don’t move on from your past, you move on with it and take the lessons you learned with you.

"I always loved the Edinburgh festival and thanks to my manager Stuart O Connor, Debi Allen my agent and producer John Mackay, I’ll be going back this year for my first fringe show in six years! I can’t wait."

The 30-year-old Tallaght native was nominated for best show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, the first Irish nominee in years. The promo on the festival website for this year's event says that Al is back “six years since his last Fringe show and making a mess of his life and career”.

Al is also writing and directing at the Olympia panto with Ryan Andrews, where he is working on this year's pantomime Olly, Polly and the Magic Lamp which is to premiere this December.
