New Delhi: Samajwadi Party Supremo Akhilesh Yadav congratulated Om Birla on his being elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha.
In his address SP Chief urged Om Birla to keep a check on the Ruling Party also.
Akhilesh Yadav expressed hope that 'Under your leadership as the Speaker, the voice of the opposition members will not be suppressed in the House and no Member will be expelled.'
Om Birla, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and MP from Kota, was elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha on Wednesday. It is the second term for Om Birla as Speaker. Earlier he was the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha.
After the INDIA bloc fielded K Suresh as its candidate, the appointment of Speaker became interesting as the election was held for the first time in about five decades.
