Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar has already dropped Erik ten Hag hint amid Manchester United links

Edwin van der Sar has already hinted that plans could be in place for Ajax to immediately appoint a new manager should Erik ten Hag become the Manchester United boss.

United have outlined the Dutchman as their preferred candidate to be in the Old Trafford hot seat on a permanent basis. Mauricio Pochettino is also still in the mix having been tipped with a move to United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking last November.

Ten Hag has come to the fore as the suitable option to take United forward in recent weeks, despite the process not yet being finalised. The Dutchman has created an exciting Ajax team that has seen the likes of Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt all secure big-money moves away from the club.

Ajax chief Van der Sar has already hinted that plans will be in place should the two-time Eredivisie champion depart, telling Dutch TV channel RTL7 last year: "This means that we are doing something well. It's the same with the players.

"When we perform, the interest comes. If there is interest in our players or coach... We've all been blown away in the past. So be it, we have to make sure we're ready by then. That the lists are filled in."
