Ajax Champions League clash is perfect chance for Darwin Nunez to pay back Liverpool fans

I was disappointed to hear that Andy Robertson has picked up a knee injury. First and foremost I hope he is alright and it is not a long-term issue.

It's the last thing that Liverpool need because he is pivotal to how they play. But what it will now do is offer an opportunity to Kostas Tsimikas, who we know is a good player. If he plays two, four or more games it gives him the chance to show the value of himself.

Ajax will be big test for Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool face Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday night as the Reds look to get their Champions League campaign back on track after the nightmare in Naples. The Dutch team won 5-0 at the weekend. They are absolutely flying at the moment. It most certainly won't be easy, as we know having played them before.

It's a club and a team that you give respect to. I remember as a kid when we got thumped at their place 5-1 in 1966 before we drew the second leg 2-2 at Anfield. That was our first real humbling experience in Europe, I think. It's a great club that has produced so many great players, Johan Cruyff in particular. We must give them as much respect as they merit.

But then, we've got to have a reaction to the defeat last week, from everyone right through the team. We have to win to get us back on track, because if we get a draw, or god forbid a defeat, then it's going to be really difficult to qualify. You want to keep it in your own hands and the way to do that is to get the three points, whatever score it is. But we need to get a performance for the manager and defensively to show that we're clicking into gear. We absolutely need a clean sheet.

No need to panic on Nunez

Before Darwin Nunez got himself sent off against Crystal Palace I thought he was doing well. But his red card will have hampered him psychologically. He has come back and he maybe tried a little too hard. He maybe wanted to impress the fans and wanted to say sorry by scoring goals. It just hasn't happened in the two games as yet. But as long as he can get into the positions he'll score goals.

He keeps getting in there, so let's hope that the payback starts against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Quadruple quest impossible to repeat and has taken its toll

Liverpool came close to producing the impossible last season and for me personally that was never going to happen again. It's hard for the players because they've got to try and go for the four trophies. That can weigh heavily on them. Personally I think that may have had something of a psychological impact. 'We've go to do this again'. How much did the last campaign take out of them? Repeating what happened last year is never going to happen. We've just got to keep on going and see what benefits this season reaps come May next year.
