Airport queues - Newcastle Airport says 'no need' to arrive earlier for half term and bank holiday travel

There is no need for passengers to arrive earlier than advised for flights over the Bank Holiday and four-day weekend, Newcastle Airport says.

Manchester and Bristol Airports have both seen lengthy queues this week as half-term travel coincided with flight cancellations. Newcastle has not been badly affected by the recent disruption, although EasyJet flights to Bristol were cancelled.

Staff shortages have been blamed for the delays at airports. Newcastle Airport is confident passengers travelling over the rest of the half-term break and next week's Jubilee Bank Holiday will not experience the chaos seen in Manchester.

How long are Newcastle International Airport's queues?

Most passengers flying through Newcastle get through security quickly. "There is no need for passengers to arrive at the airport any earlier than their airline advises," an airport spokesperson told ChronicleLive.

"So far this year, 98% of our passengers have passed through security in six minutes or less."

The airport is confident it will handle increased passenger numbers over the bank holiday, subsequent weekends and the rest of the summer season.

The spokesperson added: "As a business we have been working hard to prepare for the increase in passengers that we have seen in the build-up to the summer season and are very much looking forward to welcoming passengers from across the region back to the Airport."

How early should I arrive at Newcastle Airport?

Newcastle International Airport says to follow advice from your airline about when to arrive. Check-in desks can open at different times, depending on the airline.

Passengers who are not checking in bags can leave themselves more time, but in general, make sure you are at the departure gate at least 30 to 45 minutes before your flight takes off. Follow airport advice on the departure boards and take note of the times on your boarding pass.

Ryanair says its bag drops open two hours before the flight. For short-haul flights, TUI recommends arriving two hours early, for long-haul it suggests coming three hours before your flight departs.

Jet2 says its check-in desks open three and a half hours before flights depart. Those travelling with hand luggage only should arrive at least 90 minutes before their flight departs. Emirates advises passengers to arrive three hours early.

Check the information on your booking and for messages from your airline for their advice.
