Airport now tells passengers not to arrive too early for flights

Passengers at a major airport in England have been told not to arrive too late - or too early. The advice to arrive at 'just the right' time has been made by Manchester Airport, where many people have faced long queues and delays.

Anyone keeping up with the news in recent weeks would be well aware of advice from airport and airline bosses to arrive in good time for their flights. People flying from Manchester Airport had been urged to arrive three hours before their flight.

But as people worry about the delays and the risk of missing their flights, some passengers have been arrive far too early and adding to problems in the terminal buildings, Manchester Evening News reports. They could find themselves queuing with passengers for earlier departures, or find that check-in and security haven't opened.

Manchester Airport said in a statement: "The airport is continuing to advise customers to arrive three hours before their flights, and to ensure they are up-to-speed with the latest rules about what can be carried in hand luggage. At the same time, the airport is also asking passengers not to arrive earlier than this because it can lead to extra queues, and check-in and security facilities may not be open. "

Manchester Airport has received more than 8,000 job applications and hired more than a thousand new recruits to bolster its workforce in a bid to cut queues as passenger numbers surge.

Manchester Airport has said that while queues are still longer at times, they insist they are happening less frequently and are being cleared 'relatively quickly'. They say the whole aviation sector is facing similar staff pressures and that they are working with UK Border Force, airlines and ground handlers to support operations at immigration, check-in and baggage reclaim.
