A frustrated passenger said "adults behaving like toddlers" were the reason for lengthy delays through security checks at his local airport. He said airport staff had been unfairly blamed - and pinned the blame squarely on people 'forgetting how to go to the airport'.
Businessman Ian Gordon said headed to Leeds Bradford airport on Sunday morning to catch an early to Malaga, Spain. He said he was greeted by "crazy queues" when he arrived at 5.30am.
Ongoing issues at the airport have been put down to staffing issues. But from his experience Ian said it was more to do with passengers who "take forever" in security.
He told Leeds Live: "At 5.30am today there were crazy queues. Having got through security, first observations are it could be much quicker if passengers prepared before getting to the tray. It’s not hard.
"Take out electrical, put watch in coat pocket , take off boots, coats, and belts. Some take forever."
"People hadn't gotten out their electrical items before they get to security, and then now because everything is on our phones people haven't got their boarding passes ready, or it is in their photos and they can't find it. People have forgotten how to fly."
Ian praised the "great" and "helpful" staff he encountered at the airport. He said there were three check-in desks open when he arrived.
He added: "They could have opened another one but there's nothing more they could have done for everyone. They can't help if grown adults are behaving like toddlers."
Ian, from North Yorkshire, said he got through security in 40 minutes. Other passengers also reported that despite the long queues, the pace getting through security was between 45 minutes to an hour - an improvement on two to three hour waiting times ongoing since April.
However not everyone was so lucky. Others reported they were in "carnage" while trying to fly over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend and on Sunday afternoon a plane was reportedly "stuck" on the runway at Leeds Bradford Airport for over two hours.
Passengers were escorted from the plane and fire engines were seen on the runway. The incident led to a number of cancelled flights and delays at the airport.
Leeds Bradford Airport was contacted for a comment.
