An Air Force airman died after falling roughly 170 feet (51.8 metres) while rappelling from the Alamodome rafters on Saturday, 17 October, during the University of Texas at San Antonio's (UTSA) pregame tribute to the Armed Forces, witnessed by thousands of fans.

Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada confirmed on Sunday that the service member died at a local hospital from injuries suffered in the fall. The airman was assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, and was one of four taking part in the rappelling demonstration before kickoff.
