Airdrie slam 'abhorrent attacks' on 'several Cove Rangers supporters' as elderly man one of the victims

Airdrie are working with Police Scotland after Cove Rangers fans were 'attacked' after the weekend's match between the pair.

Ian Murray's side drew 1-1 with Peter Hartley's in League One during a highly-anticipated match in the third-tier title race.

But post-match scenes have marred the occasion after some Cove fans were targeted after the game had finished.

Now the Excelsior Stadium club are appealing for information after condemning the attacks.

They said in a statement: "Several Cove Rangers supporters were attacked after the match on Saturday including an elderly gentleman.

"Airdrieonians Football Club is disgusted that visiting supporters, who we regard as friends, could not return home after the game without experiencing this type of behaviour.

"Airdrieonians FC is working closely with Police Scotland to identify the attackers and maximum action will be taken to help eliminate all forms of unacceptable behaviour at football.

"We request that any good minded Airdrie supporters who witnessed these abhorrent attacks contact the club with as much information as possible on enquiries@airdriefc.com."
