Airdrie 1, Peterhead 1: Jamieson rescues a point for the Diamonds

Lewis Jamieson rescued a precious point for Airdrie in a battling draw with Peterhead at New Broomfield.

It looked for a long time like Jason Brown's first-half header would be enough to give the Blue Toon their first League One win in eight games, but Jamieson tucked the ball into the bottom right corner with two minutes left, following a flowing move.

Airdrie dominated and probably deserved to take something out of the game, but often didn't have enough up front to trouble Tom Ritchie.

Brown eventually headed in a Julien Carre corner from the left in 33 minutes, and Airdrie had to hack off their line shortly afterwards to prevent the visitors from doubling their lead.

But Jamieson's sixth goal in four games earned a share of the spoils.

Airdrie probably just shaded the first half but Peterhead went in 1-0 up and could have stretched that lead before the interval.

Player-boss Rhys McCabe had a free kick saved at the top left corner and touched onto the left post on separate occasions, and Callum Smith had a shot cleared off the line.

However, Peterhead's Michael Hewitt and Jack Wilkie had efforts well blocked and Andrew McDonald had a 'goal' disallowed for offside before they scored.

Airdrie huffed and puffed in the second half and while they went close on a few occasions, they barely troubled Ritchie's goal.;

Peterhead, meanwhile, were content to defend their lead.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe kept faith with the side that has won their last two League One encounters against Clyde and Montrose.

His Peterhead counterpart Jim McInally made three changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Montrose last time out. Andrew McDonald, Julien Carre and Andrew McCarthy came in for Enock Walusimbi, Trialist and Connor O'Keefe.

Jason Brown collected the first yellow card of the game in four minutes for a crude challenge on Callum Smith, and Rhys McCabe's 20-yard free kick was clutched at the top left corner by Tom Ritchie.

Peterhead threatened in 11 minutes when MIchael Hewitt and Jack Wilkie both had shots well blocked.

Wilkie then cleared an ambitious Callum Smith effort from the left touch-line off the line, a minute later.

Peterhead's McDonald had the ball in the net in 16 minutes, flicking home a Carre free-kick, but he was flagged offside.

Airdrie's Cammy Ballantyne was twice denied at the right post by smart saves from Ritchie in 23 minutes.

McDonald's cross from the left was headed by Danny Strachan in 27 minutes, but Dean Lyness made a comfortable save.

But Peterhead took the lead six minutes later when Carre's corner from the left caused havoc in the Airdrie box and Brown headed in.

McCabe's netbound free kick was touched onto the left post in 37 minutes as Airdrie tried to draw level.

Smith's cross from the left was met with a deft flick by Lewis Jamieson in 42 minutes but he could only find the near-post side-netting.

Euan Deveney tried a curling effort that bent just too far past the right post in 51 minutes.

But Airdrie drew level when Jamieson side-footed the ball into the bottom right corner with two minutes remaining.
