Air Fryer owners praising £1.75 Wilko staple as a 'game changer'

The massive trend in households buying an air-fryer was sparked and sustained, to some extent, by the current cost of living crisis. Sales of the kitchen gadget boomed and it seemed everyone was dashing out to get their hands on one of the cost saving appliances.

There is, however, one downside to the cooking method that owners have discovered. But equally, some fans of the gadget are investing in a £1.75 Wilko staple that they are claiming to be a 'game changer'.

As Nottinghamshire Live sister publication Manchester Evening News wrote: "These days it's hard to find someone who doesn't have an air fryer in their household", the publication noted that while they are considerably cheaper than some other cooking methods, air fryers do have their downside, they can prove difficult to clean after cooking greasy items inside.

A cleaning tip has been shared on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, that shoppers say they have discovered gets your air fryer sparkling clean almost instantly. And while the publication has spotted the item at £1.75 a box in one store, you may actually already have the kitchen staple in your cupboard.

One shopper wrote: "A game changer for me if you've got an air fryer and you can’t get grease off [the] basket. Put some over the basket and add boiling water and leave to steep, then wipes straight off, I was really amazed." The item turns out to be bicarbonate of soda. The raising agent has long been hailed for its cleaning capabilities.

Currently, one of the best value bicarbonate of soda boxes found online was a 500g box from Wilko, which will set you back £1.75. However, boxes of the bicarbonate of soda are currently on a three for £3.50 offer - which works out at £1.17 per box. Smaller tubs can be found in most supermarkets at varying prices.

Responding to the post, one fan of the product said: "Bicarbonate best thing since sliced bread got a big bucket I use it for everything." Another said: "I brought from B&M", with a third adding: "Put it with white vinegar, even better." And another joining the conversation, said: "Best cleaning product around. Makes light work of oven doors."

Others praised the product for its uses. One said: "I buy this from Savers - super cheap and multi purpose. Blocked drains - add vinegar, fridge and washing machine clean."
