Air ambulance lands on beach after man falls off Southport Pier

A man was airlifted to hospital after falling from Southport Pier.

Police and paramedics were called to Southport beach at around 5pm on Monday to reports a man in his 30s had fallen from the pier. An air ambulance was filmed landing in the water before the man was pulled from the sea.

He suffered from spinal injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The coastguard and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident.

The pier remained closed while emergency services worked at the scene and has since been reopened.

A police spokesperson said: " Merseyside Police can confirm that emergency services were at Southport Pier yesterday afternoon (Monday 15 August) at around 5pm following reports that a man had fallen from the pier.

"The man in his 30’s suffered spinal injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The Pier was temporary closed whilst Coastguard and Merseyside Fire and Rescue services were also at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing.

"At present there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident."
