Aiden McGeady Hibs transfer latest as Lee Johnson hands ex-Celtic winger 'maverick' tag

Hibs boss Lee Johnson has broken his silence over links with Aiden McGeady.

The former Celtic winger is out of contract after departing English outfit Sunderland.

McGeady and Johnson worked together for a spell at the Black Cats with the new Hibs boss describing him as a 'maverick'.

It's been a busy summer to date at Easter Road with the 40-year-old refusing to rule out a swoop for the Republic of Ireland cap.

He told Sky Sports: “I’ve got a strong relationship with Aiden McGeady and he's a fantastic player. Unbelievable.

“He gets to the corner of the box and often in that situation, there’s an assist, a shot or goal.

“He's 36-years-old so whether it’s us or anywhere else, he’s got nothing to prove.

He’s a maverick; a challenging but inspiring character to have in the squad and whoever gets Aiden McGeady, will have an exceptional player."

Hibs have found out their fixture schedule for the 2022/23 campaign as they bid to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last time around.

They kick-off the season away to St Johnstone before welcoming Hearts to Easter Road in Johnson's first home Premiership match.
