Matchwinner Aidan Sezer reckons Leeds Rhinos can build on their “crazy” win at Catalans Dragons as they maintain their quest for a play-off spot. Rohan Smith’s men looked dead and buried in Perpignan on Saturday after trailing 30-6 before mounting a stunning comeback.
Despite losing prop Matt Prior to a red card early in the second half, the Rhinos took the game to golden point extra-time and won it through Sezer’s try. The Aussie playmaker said: “It was crazy. A lot went against us with Prizz getting sent off and us going down to 12 men.
“You would probably have thought that was a nail in the coffin, but we showed great character and great belief. To go to Catalans and take the two points is something we can build on.”

Sezer believes the manner of the fightback was testament to the growing belief within the squad. “It shows the character within the group,” he added.
“It has been a rollercoaster season for us, but the belief has always has been there. When we put things together, we can score some points and we got back into the game by doing that. The pleasing thing for me was that, when we got it back to 32-32, we didn’t play conservative footie. We just keep going and to get the two points was amazing, but all wins are vital at this time of year.”
Sezer has endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Leeds but produced the goods when it mattered most against the Dragons to win a classic encounter. The Rhinos have won six times in 10 games since Smith was appointed and Sezer said of his matchwinning score: “As a half-back, you want the ball in your hand for those big moments.
“I knew I would get another chance after I missed a drop-goal. To cap it off like we did and get the win is something we can all be proud of. To celebrate with the fans at the end was special.”
