Aidan O'Rourke to remain interim Donegal manager for remainder of 2023 season

DONEGAL GAA has confirmed that Aidan O’Rourke will see out the 2023 season as interim senior football manager.

O’Rourke, who was brought on board as the team’s coach late last year, was thrust into the managerial role last week following Paddy Carr’s resignation as manager.

He took charge of the side for last Sunday’s concluding League game against Roscommon as Donegal’s relegation from Division One was confirmed with a 12-point defeat at Dr Hyde Park.

After the game, the former Armagh defender appeared to cast doubt on whether he would continue in the role, saying: “I don’t know where my head would be at at the minute. I didn’t focus on anything bar trying to get this game played and try get a performance out of them, which didn’t happen.”

However, in a statement, Donegal confirmed that O’Rourke “will continue as interim manager and head coach of the Donegal senior squad for the Ulster Championship and for the 2023 All-Ireland series”.

He will be assisted by ex-Derry star Paddy Bradley, who joined the management team in a coaching capacity last November, while 2012 All-Ireland winner Antoin McFadden comes on board as strength and conditioning coach.

It will be O’Rourke’s second senior inter-county managerial post having previously taken charge of Louth, though he has held coaching roles in a number of other counties.

Donegal open their Ulster Championship campaign with a tricky tie against Down in Newry on April 23.
