An artificial intelligence tool that reads doctors' notes helped neurology residents correctly tell epilepsy apart from functional seizures 87.7% to 89% of the time, up from 76.3% to 79.3% without it, according to a study published in npj Digital Medicine on Oct. 8. Senior physicians using the tool reached 89.3% accuracy.
The tool, called EpiScreen, was developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota. It was tested on past medical records, not on patients in real time, so it is not ready for clinical use.
