AI has made it to the boardroom – can companies make the most of it?

When Christian Stadler sat in on a recent board meeting, a crucial question was answered in a way that just might predict how companies are run in the future. The quandary was whether it would be more cost effective to renovate an old facility or set up elsewhere. It came down to the maths, but no director could conjure up a figure. There was one source that could, though – AI.

Stadler, a professor of strategic management at Warwick Business School (WBS), explains that posing difficult questions that executives cannot immediately answer is a typical scenario in board meetings. It’s why the business school specialises not just in the study of AI but, more importantly, how AI affects decision-makers, how it can be incorporated into departments and, ultimately – possibly – the board.
