'Aguero regen' — Man City fans make obvious comparison after Julian Alvarez hat-trick

Manchester City fans cannot wait to see Julian Alvarez in action next season after seeing him bag a hat-trick on Wednesday night.

Alvarez is set to arrive at the Etihad in the summer, having completed a £14.1million move to City during the January transfer window, signing a five-and-a-half year deal.

He will remain on loan with River Plate until July at least, with the possibility he could stay in South America for longer – although after seeing what he can offer last night, City fans want him in their side as soon as possible.

Alvarez was in prolific form as he got off the mark in style for the 2022 season, scoring an impressive hat-trick in River’s 4-1 win over Patronato in Argentina’s League Cup.

Having fallen behind early, Alvarez headed River back level before grabbing his second before half-time, making a darting run between two defenders before powering his shot home.

And he completed his hat-trick shortly after the break with a composed finish as he gave City fans a taste of what’s to come, with supporters noticing a similarity with a certain club legend.

Speaking about his side’s performance, Alvarez said: "We played a good game. At times we have to handle the ball a little more. We did it in a short time.

"We have to continue working to be more continuous in that. From that the goals come. As long as it serves to help the team there I am.

"I reach the goals thanks to them. They are the ones who assist me. We work as a team to reach the goal or to whatever, always together."
