SASARAM: Two policemen were injured while trying to control the violent protests against Centre’s Agnipath scheme in Sasaram district of Bihar on Friday.
The police opened several rounds of fire in the air to disperse the violent crowd, when they set ablaze a toll plaza on NH- 2 and vandalised BJP district office near Kumhau village under Sheosagr police station.
The toll plaza was completely burnt and all the equipment, including computers CCTV cameras and air- conditioners were damaged by the agitators. Almost all the agitators, numbering more than 500, had covered their faces with “Gamchha’.
Rohtas SP Ashish Bhararti said two police personnel, including SHO of Sheosagar police station Sushant Mandal, were injured and were getting treatment at Sasaram Sadar hospital.
“After the burning of toll plaza, the collection of toll tax has been suspended and it will take at least one week to restore toll collection,” said an officer of National Highways Authority of India. Average Collection from the toll plaza is above Rs60 lakh per day.
The sources said that after blocking old GT road near head post office at Sasaram, the mob walked four km on foot, stormed into BJP office at NH-2 and ransacked the furniture, fans, window and doors. The police opened fire in the air.
The agitators vandalized nearby toll plaza and set ablaze the collection cabins and barriers and other items.
