Agent for Lions Assistant Addresses Wild Reported Asking Price for Head Coaching Opportunities

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson could be a top target for NFL teams looking for a new head coach in the coming offseason.

Early on Thursday afternoon, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the asking fee coming from Johnson’s camp for a potential jump to a head coaching role was around $15 million per year.

But shortly after Anderson’s tweet, Johnson’s agent Richmond Flowers made a post of his own, denying the report.

“I'm told personnel around the league are discussing their awareness that there is no asking price or demand and this tweet is 100% false and irresponsible reporting, per source,” Flowers wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to Anderson.

While Johnson’s name is getting thrown around by teams currently already looking towards the 2024 season, Johnson is currently still pretty busy leading the Lions offensive unit, which is third in the league in yards per game and fifth in points per game.

When asked about how he would block out the potential for future opportunities on Thursday, Johnson dodged the question, instead touting Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as the one to watch.

“He’s a guy that we should be asking about head coaching," Johnson said of Glenn, per the Detroit Free Press. "That guy, what he’s done, he’s phenomenal. He’s going to be a phenomenal football—head football coach when he gets the opportunity to do that, and I think when you bring those types of questions up you need to make sure you’re asking them to him as well."
