'After years of hiding behind a mask, I can finally be who I am'

A Liverpool-based artist has opened up on what it was like growing up gay in his home country.

Alexandre Rezende Da Silva, who lives in Wavertree, reflected on what his upbringing was like in São Paulo, Brazil, and compared it to the life he has built for himself in the city.

The 45-year-old said he felt he needed to be a “good actor” as a teenager as “any wrong move in the wrong place could cause problems” for him as a gay man.
