One of this week's biggest pieces of gaming news was the reveal of Metro 2039, a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2019 shooter Metro Exodus that will bring the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise back to Moscow and its metro tunnels after the previous title explored the state of the world beyond the city's borders.
Studio 4A Games partnered up with Xbox to unveil Metro 2039 in full on Thursday morning, with Microsoft hosting a 15-minute showcase of the upcoming FPS in a new "Xbox First Look" format. The deep dive revealed several details about the game's story and setting, while also confirming a Winter 2026 release date on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store), and PS5.
The announcement of Metro 2039 has been a celebration for 4A Games, which wrote a letter to the community discussing just how much the game means to them as it works to finish it amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. As part of the revelry, it's made every other Metro game incredibly affordable for a limited time — but the best deal on the series is on Xbox.
Indeed, from now until April 24, the entire Metro Saga Bundle — a collection that includes the remastered "Redux" versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, along with Metro Exodus and its two DLC expansions — is only $5.99 on the Xbox Store (and also the PlayStation Store, if you're on PS5 or PS4). It's normally a full $59.99, so this is nothing short of a phenomenal deal.
Notably, Steam also has the same bundle going for $7.49, so don't worry about being left out if you're a PC gamer. Sure, it's a dollar and a half pricier, but you gain the ability to mod the games if you'd like to, and you can push their visual fidelity higher too if you've got a high-end gaming rig.
All of the games are also available individually across all of their platforms (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC) for massive 80-90% discounts, too, so if you already own some and just need to get the titles you're missing, you can still take advantage of amazing savings.
If you enjoy single player shooter games and don't mind horror elements, I cannot recommend the Metro series enough. The story of franchise protagonist Artyom and his comrades that's been told across the trilogy preceding Metro 2039 is a beautiful tale of hope and resilience in a bleak, post-nuclear world, wrapped up in some of the most compelling FPS gameplay and atmosphere I've ever experienced.
Metro Exodus in particular stands out as my favorite open-world shooter with its unparalleled immersion, world design, and reactivity, but the series as a whole is a masterpiece. It's more than worth its full price, so enjoying it for the price of a beer is some of the best bang-for-your-buck value you'll ever be able to take advantage of. Get the games while they're this dirt cheap — I promise you won't regret it.
