A 33-year-old man went to an emergency department in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a left ear that had been swelling for a week. He reported no blow to the ear, no fever, no ear discharge, and no past ear surgery. The swelling, he said, began after he slept overnight wearing headphones.
Doctors diagnosed an auricular hematoma, a collection of blood and fluid under the skin of the outer ear, and drained it. The fluid came back on day 2 and again on day 6.
