Beloved retro FPS Ultrakill is soon going up in price to match everything that's been added to the brutal shooter over the last few years in Steam Early Access, but not before one last sale.
The Ultrakill social media account gave everyone a friendly warning just yesterday. "This weekend we'll be putting ULTRAKILL on sale, which will be the last sale before we raise the base price to account for the new content that came in the LAYER 8: FRAUD update," the dev writes. "Giving y'all a heads up in case you haven't bought it yet and want to get in on the lower price!"
The recent Ultrakill Layer 8: Fraud update is easily the chunkiest bit of content the shooter's gotten in almost two years, adding in tipsy-turvy Inception-style environments that had the devs "rewriting every enemy to be able to use the portals," according to a blog post.
For the unbloodied among us, Ultrakill has players descend through the layers of hell, and Layer 7 rampaged into the game in 2023, so this one's been a long time coming.
"This is the first time we've increased the Early Access price since 2022, before the P-2, Layer 7, ULTRA REVAMP and Layer 8 updates," the dev adds. "The game and team have grown a lot!"
So Ultrakill is now 30% off on Steam until next week, May 18. There's currently no word on how much that base price is going to be bumped up. The devs add, "Don't say we didn't warn you!"
Should you still be on the fence about it, Ultrakill really is one of the best shooters around, even in its still-in-development state. It has the aesthetics of classics from the '90s, the brutal momentum of something like Doom Eternal, and a scoring-system ripped (and torn) straight from character action games that makes every encounter a thrill.
