Sarita Yolmo, who works under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), normally performs her duties at New Jalpaiguri (NJP). Although she has previously undertaken normal assignments, her latest posting to manage tour trains on the famous mountain railway line makes her stand out as a first of her kind. This makes her the first woman in the history of the zone to be given this prestigious assignment.

The railway authorities have termed the development as a progressive move that marks the shift in the new landscape of Indian Railways. The move is thus a part of the larger

efforts being made to ensure gender inclusion.

With the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway on its journey through the hills, Sarita Yolmo’s success symbolizes progress, mixing tradition with a vision for the future of Indian Railways.
