NEW DELHI: A special flight operated by Afghan carrier Kam Air flew in nine people from Kabul to Delhi on Wednesday morning. It flew back with 26 passengers from here later in the day, say sources. Kam Air flew in an Airbus A340 as RQ 4401 which landed here at 11.40 am. It flew back at 2.17 pm.
Kam Air has not been granted approval to operate any scheduled flight in summer schedule 2022. “It may be a non-schedule flight after clearance from the Indian government,” said an official.
Pictures of a Kam A340 had gone viral last August when scores of people had gatecrashed Kabul Airport on August 16, 2021, to fly out of the capital that was on the verge of being taken over by the Taliban. The picture showed people on top of this twin-aisle aircraft.
Another Afghan carrier, Ariana, also plans to operate some flights to India and a couple of other countries.
Afghanistan airspace was shut for non-defence flights to, from and over the country starting August 16, 2021. Since then overflying commercial aircraft bypass the country on their flights between the west and the east. The last commercial flight between India and Afghanistan was operated by Air India on August 15, 2021.
