Affordable housing development results in 36 families setting up homes in North Lanarkshire

Thirty-six families have set up new homes in North Lanarkshire thanks to affordable housing developed by the Link Group.

Construction of the £6.2m development, located off Laxford Place in Coatbridge, started in July 2020 using £3.421m of Scottish Government funding, with the remainder provided by Link and private lenders.

Link Group commercial director Colin Culross told Lanarkshire Live : “The quality of the area people live in is just as important as the homes we build.

“This is why, alongside developing these new, affordable properties, we have invested in our existing stock in the surrounding area.

“We’re delighted to see the difference Link’s investment has already made to people’s lives.”

Built by The JR Group, the development consists of one, two and three-bedroom properties for general social rent and two wheelchair accessible properties.

Andrew Dallas, project director for The JR Group, said: “We are proud to work with our partners at Link Group to deliver these much-needed homes in Coatbridge.

“Our team has worked hard, during some challenging circumstances brought about by the pandemic, to deliver a collection of modern homes that are a great addition to the local community.

“It’s great to now see residents enjoying their new homes, and we hope they’ll be very happy there.”

Laxford Place builds on Link’s ambitious plan to deliver 3381 "affordable, high-quality homes over the next five years".

Since 2020, Link has completed three developments in North Lanarkshire and currently has one development on-site in Motherwell.

Housing Secretary Shona Robison said: “We want everyone to have a safe, warm, affordable home that meets their needs.

“I am delighted that we’ve been able to provide £3.421m funding to support the delivery of these 36 new high-quality homes for social rent to help meet the housing needs of the people in the Coatbridge area.”

Pamela Humphries, head of planning and regeneration, added: “We’re delighted to see the completion of these new affordable homes for rent at Laxford Place and the wider housing improvements carried out by Link.

“This development will help meet the need for high quality affordable and accessible accommodation in the Coatbridge area and I’m sure tenants will be delighted with their new homes.

“As well as delivering our own new build programme we will continue to work with our partners such as Link to deliver new affordable homes to meet local housing need.”
