The Cannes Film Festival has kicked off, which means a marathon of red carpet events as celebrities frock-up for movie premieres.
It's only the second day of the festival, but we're already getting a sense that there's going to be nothing subtle about the outfits at this year's event.
Here's some of the looks we've seen so far:
Not-at-all mellow yellow
Lori Harvey looking very much like Belle from that scene in Beauty in the Beast … you know the scene. (AP: Daniel Cole)
The sleeves add that little something extra to Viola Davis' otherwise quite classic gown. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
Jasmine Tookes's gown comes with its own fan. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
Glam metal
Jennifer Connelly's dress looks like it's made of scrunched-up foil from takeaway garlic bread, but in an elegant way. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
That over-the-shoulder cape adds some drama to Grace Elizabeth's golden number. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
Bebe Vio giving out big knight-in-shining-armour vibes with this cutaway number. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
High volume
It's almost as though Didi Stone's draping a half-inflated air mattress around her shoulders, but somehow it's regal and glamorous. (AP: Vianney Le Caer)
Staple a loofah to a few kilometres of tulle and you'll have something close to Leonie Hanne's dress. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
Elle Fanning was also on the tulle train … but was a little more subtle about it than Hanne. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's dress looks like someone stuffed a whole bunch of flowers into a bin bag, which split open because the black plastic couldn't contain all that delight. It's brilliant. (AP: Vianney Le Caer)
Tallia Storm's sleeves don't muck around — they're reminiscent of those paper pineapple straw decorations you see on fruity cocktails. (AP: Daniel Cole)
Theatrical details
Something about Meryem Uzerli's dress suggests the designer was inspired by a set of wings from a child's fairy costume. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
Adriana Lima's pregnant belly is a key feature in this dramatic extra-long-sleeved, shoulder-padded look. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
Katherine Langford may not feel overly comfortable leaning right into the backrest of her chair in this dress, but that's the price you have to pay for a look like this. (AP: Daniel Cole)
The high neckline and hanging straps draped around Lashana Lynch's arms gives this number an air of stateliness. (AP: Joel C Ryan)
And this totally understated entrance...
Frederique Bel's dress might not be the most practical for nipping down to the shops in, but it was entirely appropriate for a dramatic red carpet. (AP: Dionisia Vasilopoulou)
The Cookie Montser-like mini dress is fine, but let's be honest, it's all about that train. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
Yep, it's all about the train. (AP: Petros Giannakouris)
