French-British actress Emma Mackey, known for playing Maeve Wiley on the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education, has been cast as the main character.
Director of biopic Emily, Frances O’Connor is reported to have previously said: "Emily Brontë’s writing is steeped in such passion, feeling, violence and fierce intelligence – that I’ve always yearned to know who she really was...
“Emily is about a rebel and misfit, a young woman daring to form herself, to embrace her true nature, despite the consequences. And, in creating an imagined life for her, I hope Emily Brontë will live again.”
Recently Dunbar, renowned for playing Superintendent Ted Hastings in the hit police drama Line of Duty, has been involved in the Happy Days festival in Enniskillen celebrating the work of Nobel laureate playwright Samuel Beckett since its inception in 2012.
This year he directed one of Beckett’s plays amid ancient monastic ruins on the island of Devenish on the outskirts of the lakeland town in Co Fermanagh.
Emily is set to be released in UK cinemas on Friday 14th October.
