Adele 'spent £1,000 to create a library zoom background' in bookshop spending spree

Global music star Adele i s said to have splurged in a London bookshop to create the perfect home library worthy of a Zoom background.

The 33-year-old hitmaker was hoping to keep her bookcase credibility in check - something which became a hot topic for celebs when living through lockdown.

Eagle-eyed viewers were offered a snapshot into a host of homes - with the all-important library backdrop becoming a source of conversation.

And it appears Adele was looking to up her game as she was spotted stepping into an up market bookshop and announcing to staff ''I want a library''.

A source told The Daily Mail : "She came into the Chelsea branch of Daunt Books with a friend.

''All the staff were thrilled when she walked in, wearing sunglasses and looking like a superstar. She went about pulling books off the shelves without even looking at the spines or reading the blurbs, and piling them up by the till.

"I said, 'You’re buying a lot of books', and she replied, 'Yeah, I want a library'." The total bill was said to be £1,000.

But the Hello singer already showed off some of her random mix of books when she appeared on Zoom during the pandemic with titles appearing including London Blitzed: Drugs In The Third Reich.

The songstress was recently quizzed about her book collection in a video interview with Vogue at her LA home.

The varied collection included the titles The Mosaics Of Rome and Japanese Prints. "There are some good ones up there," she said as the camera panned the shelves.

When the interviewer asked: "Can you learn a lot about a person by the books they keep?'', Adele replied: ''Well I would say that, but I don’t know many people that have real books in their house any more. They seem to have Kindle or they just don’t read at all or on their phone.''

Meanwhile Adele has previously credited a self-help book for helping her find "joy, happiness and freedom".

Posting a photo of the book on Instagram, the singer explained how Untamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living, by New York Times bestselling author Glennon Doyle made her brain shake and "soul scream".

The Someone Like You singer, who recently caused outrage with fans after cancelling her Las Vegas residency, credited the book for giving her a new perspective on how to live and be less "stressed and disheveled, confused and selfless".

She told followers: "If you’re ready - this book will shake your brain and make your soul scream. I am so ready for myself after reading this book! It’s as if I just flew into my body for the very first time. Whew!"
